Sustainability

At Grounded Events, we create events that are beautiful, memorable, AND better for the planet without breaking your budget. We know how wasteful events can be when couples don’t have the tools to make intentional, sustainable choices, but that’s where we come in!

We have developed a community of incredible eco-friendly wedding vendors who, combined with our years of industry knowledge, can help you make choices that fit your vision and your values. We work with sustainable wedding vendors across many categories and price points, so we know who to call if you want floral foam-free flowers, seed paper invitations, sustainable alcohol, and any other green touches to your wedding.

We also know that everyone is at a different stage in their sustainability journey, so we work with you to understand your priorities and make personalized recommendations. We promise, we won’t judge you if your wedding isn’t perfectly zero-waste. Instead, we’ll just show you how easy it can be to incorporate sustainable elements while still creating your dream wedding.

Our favorite low-waste tip: include food and floral donation and/or composting in your wedding plan! It’s a fantastic way to decrease the event’s carbon footprint and help the surrounding community at the same time - a true win win!

Wondering how to plan an eco-friendly wedding? Here are just a few ways…

Just a few ways we can make your event sustainable…

With all our couples, we provide specific suggestions for how to talk about sustainability with different types of vendors. Overall though, a good place to start is to ask if vendors care about sustainability, donate to socially or environmentally responsible causes, and incorporate sustainability into their own life. We love working with vendors who are transparent and excited to answer your questions about their practices.

Venue: Book a sustainable venue - this can mean they are LEED-certified, use efficient heating and lighting systems, or protect local habitats while operating.

Florals: Ask florists to avoid using floral foam, which is hazardous to their health and the environment; source local or organic flowers; use dried floral elements that can be used over and over again; and donate your flowers afterwards or send them home with guests.

Catering: Use local or sustainably sourced ingredients; donate or compost leftover food (there are always TONS of leftovers); or even make your meal vegetarian or vegan.

Bar: Rent glassware instead of buying plastic (pro tip: this also levels up your wedding design); or work with a bartender who uses local, organic, or sustainably sourced mixers, garnishes and/or alcohol.

Paper Goods: Print your invites and day-of paper goods on sustainable paper (seed paper, hemp paper, or recycled paper) with low-impact dyes; or work with local printers.

Linens: Source linens made with low-impact dyes and ethically produced, organic, or dead-stock textiles (dead-stock fabric is leftover from regular retailers and would otherwise be thrown out); work with companies who minimize manufacturing waste; or rent linens instead of purchasing.

Attire: Buy your attire second-hand or wear something passed down by family; wear outfits made with eco-friendly fabrics or dead-stock; or wear attire made locally. Also pay attention to the wages and conditions provided in the textile factories.

Beauty: Use clean beauty products with minimal, recyclable, or refillable packaging.

Photography: Work with a local photographer who shoots with a digital camera instead of film and partners with local printers for all albums, etc.

And so much more!
